BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes the Director of Public Utilities to enter into a professional services contract for Water Line Rehabilitation-Far East Columbus Water Main Improvements Part II, Contract No. 1055, C.I.P. No. 690236 in conjunction with the 2005 Capital Improvement Program for the Division of Water. In accordance with the provisions of Chapter 329.11, of the Columbus City Codes 1959, Request For Statement of Qualifications for ten (10) projects were received and reviewed from thirty-nine (39) engineering firms. The following three (3) firms were selected as finalists for this project and they submitted technical proposals by the June 18, 2004 deadline:
Korda/Nemeth Engineering, Inc.
Resource International, Inc.
Jones-Stuckey Ltd., Inc.
The proposals were judged on their technical merits by a point system. Based on the evaluations of the Selection Committee, Korda/Nemeth Engineering, Inc. was selected. The Division of Water does not have sufficient personnel to prepare the plans and specifications to complete this project in a timely manner. It is necessary to obtain the services of a consulting engineer so that the plans and specifications can be developed to facilitate the construction of this component of the Capital Improvement Program.

FISCAL IMPACT: This project was included in the 2005 C.I.B. and is being funded by current monies.

To authorize the Director of Public Utilities to enter into contract with Korda/Nemeth Engineering, Inc. for the engineering design of the Water Line Rehabilitation-Far East Columbus Water Main Improvements Part II for the Division of Water, and to authorize the expenditure of $96,000.00 from the Water Works Enlargement Voted 1991 Bonds Fund.
