Explanation
TO THE HONORABLE MEMBERS OF COLUMBUS CITY COUNCIL:
BACKGROUND:
This ordinance authorizes the Administrative Judge of the Franklin County Municipal Court to accept a grant in the amount of $42,550.00 from the State of Ohio, Crime Victim Assistance Office, and to appropriate from the unappropriated balance of the General Government Grant Fund to the Probation Department within the Department of Municipal Court Judges, the total amount of the grant . This grant will fund a portion of the salaries and fringes of two (2) Victim Assistants for the continuation of a program in the Probation Department to assist Probation Officers primarily in the Domestic Violence Unit. The two employees serve as a liaison to the City Prosecutor and work with the victims of crime when a perpetrator has been placed on probation. An additional $55,000.00 from the Court's Special Revenue Fund, Probation Fees, will fund the balance of the salaries and fringes not funded by the State of Ohio.
FISCAL IMPACT
No City of Columbus funds are needed since the match plus additional funding needs are budgeted in the Court's Special Revenue Fund, Probation Fees. This legislation is contingent upon the passage of companion transfer legislation from the Court's Special Revenue Fund.
EMERGENCY DECLARATION IS REQUESTED TO EXPEDITE THIS NEW CYCLE BEING IN PLACE AS CLOSE TO THE 1ST OF OCTOBER, 2003, AS POSSIBLE.
