WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country, is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business, labor leaders, and student volunteers who have given outstanding service to the community; and
 
WHEREAS, The Central Ohio AFL-CIO Youth Services Award is given to a student or group of students who have voluntarily given their time to help others in the community; and
 
WHEREAS, this year's recipients of the 2006 Central Ohio AFL-CIO Youth Services Award, Kathy Poulton's Fourth Grade Class at Highland Park Elementary School, is participating in their community and their country with three major fundraisers: "Dollars For Disaster," a fundraiser for the victims of Hurricane Katrina; "Peas on Earth," a food drive for the Native American Center and the Grove City White Christmas food baskets, and a read-a-thon for the Heifer Project International, to help feed a family in need; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby congratulate the recipient of the 2006 Central Ohio AFL-CIO Youth Services Award, Kathy Poulton's Fourth Grade Class at Highland Park Elementary School, whose students have voluntarily given their time to help others, making a significant contribution to Central Ohio.
