To Recognize the 3rd Sunday of October as Anti - Racism Sunday

WHEREAS, Institutional racism is now recognized as a deterrent to life, liberty, health, and prosperity for all citizens of these United States; and
WHEREAS, Judicatories of the Ohio Council of Churches have initiated efforts to support racial justice for over 100 years; and
WHEREAS, the Council of Churches created or participated in efforts to promote racial justice and foster anti - discrimination efforts such as, but not limited to, creating groups to educate city leders and legislators about the plight of Wrongful Incarceration and the
Death Penalty, Black Children Trouble, Urban Crisis and Black Survival, and making Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday a state holiday; and
WHEREAS, the Ohio Council of Churches has sponsored an Anti - racism Sunday to diminish racism in churches and other institutions; and
WHEREAS, the Council's Anti-Racism has organized activities for both member churches in Ohio to observe this the 3rd Sunday in October as Anti - Racism Sunday; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS; to declare the 3rd Sunday of October as Anti- Racism Sunday in recognition of churches efforts to reduce the deleterious effects that racism exacts from thehealth, happiness, and general welfare of our community and state.
