Title
To recognize the Friends of the Columbus Metropolitan Library as they celebrate their 30th anniversary.
Body
WHEREAS in 2006 the Friends of the Columbus Metropolitan Library celebrates thirty years of promoting library involvement in the life of the community and community involvement in the life of the library; and
WHEREAS the Friends of the Library is a volunteer group dedicated to supporting the award-winning Columbus Metropolitan Library system and working to enhance the library's mission 'to promote reading and guide learning in the pursuit of information, knowledge and wisdom;' and
WHEREAS the Friends of the Library sponsor author visits, the Summer Reading Club, add to book, audio and video collections, and contribute countless volunteer hours to assist branch libraries throughout the region; and
WHEREAS the very best American libraries are institutions unique to their communities, and the Friends target their resources toward extra programming and services relevant to each branch and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS the Friends own and operate The Library Store located at the main branch, a treasure of locally crafted gift items that celebrate Columbus history; and
WHEREAS the Friends understand that learning can be fun, offering entertaining educational programs for children and young adults throughout Greater Columbus; and
WHEREAS for three decades, the Friends of the Library have dedicated 100% of their resources to strengthening the Columbus Metropolitan Library system, recognized in 2006 as the #1 ranked library in the nation; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council recognizes and congratulates the Friends of the Columbus Metropolitan Library for thirty years of service to the community.
