Explanation

Background:
This ordinance will grant permission to the Short North Business Assocition to apply for a temporary liquor permit authorizing the sale of alcoholic beverages at the 2008 High Ball: Halloween Masquerade on High Street event to be held on October 31, 2008 from 5:00 p.m. to midnight. The Short North Business Association wishes to sell alcoholic beverages to eligible patrons on High Street from north of Buttles Avenue to south of First Avenue that will be used for this event. The City of Columbus, acting by and through its Director of Recreation and Parks, is required to grant approval to the organizer of this event so they may obtain the required permits from the Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of Liquor Control.

Body

WHEREAS, the 2008 High Ball: Halloween Masquerade on High Street will take place on October 31, 2008, from 5:00 p.m. to midnight in the Short North Business District; and

WHEREAS, following precedent, the organizer of this event wishes to sell alcoholic beverages at said event; and

WHEREAS, to this end, permission from the City of Columbus is required as it is the property owner involved; now, therefore

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

SECTION 1. That the Director of Recreation and Parks be and he is hereby authorized and directed to grant consent on behalf of the City of Columbus to the Short North Business Association to apply for the appropriate liquor permits to enable the non-profit group to sell alcoholic beverages during the hours specified in said permits and at a specified location during their 2008 event.
