Explanation
Title
To congratulate Stonewall Columbus on their 25th Anniversary, and to commend their efforts to provide services to Central Ohio's GLBT community.
Body
WHEREAS, Stonewall Columbus serves the Central Ohio GLBT community by providing a community center and offering programming and services that enhance the well-being and visibility of our diverse community through discovery, affirmation and celebration; and
WHEREAS, More than 9,500 people visit the center each year, for literature from various social and political groups, a lending library with 1100+ titles, events bulletin boards and housing and job listings. Over 35 organizations and groups use our centrally-located facility as a safe, convenient, and comfortable environment for meetings and events; and
WHEREAS, Stonewall Columbus PRIDE Holiday is the largest of its kind in the Midwest welcoming over 100,000 visitors as well as 10 million in tourism dollars for our state capital.
WHEREAS, June 2006 marks the 25th Anniversary of Stonewall Columbus as a community center serving the needs of Central Ohio's GLBT population. Services include: Telephone Referral Service, Stonewall Columbus Business and Professional Council, Safe Schools Coalition, Stonewall Education Project, and the GLBT Interfaith Program, among others; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby congratulate Stonewall Columbus for their significant contribution and unwavering dedication to the citizens of Central Ohio.
