To recognize and celebrate Reverend Doctor Henry L. Johnson, III on 50 years of preaching the gospel

 

Body

WHEREAS,                       Reverend Johnson has served as Pastor of the Union Grove Baptist Church since September 1994, Second Baptist Church, Elyria, OH 1985 - 1994, Puritan Baptist Church, Indianapolis , IN 1978 - 1985 adding up to 50 years of preaching the gospel;  and

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Johnson is the author of a Master Thesis, “The National Baptist Convention, U.S.A. and America: A Litany of Unity”.  Reverend Johnson recently received his Doctoral Degree from United Theological Seminary, Dayton Ohio; and

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Johnson has established may programs to enhance the ministry of the church, recently started an eight o’clock service at Poindexter Place Apartment on Sunday mornings where residents can attend worship service without leaving home; and

 

WHEREAS,  Reverend Johnson has been part of PACT (Partners Achieving Community Transformation), a collaboration  of the City of Columbus, CMHA (Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority, and The Ohio State University. A five year program to revitalize the Near East Side, and surrounding areas. Pastor Johnson is part of the Advisory Board and the Housing Sub-committee; and

 

WHEREAS, Reverend Johnson and his wife First Lady Kathy Johnson celebrated 49 years of marriage this past July, and have four children Blandon, Matthew, Mark, and Annetta ; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:  That this Council does hereby recognize and celebrate Reverend Doctor Henry L. Johnson III on 50 years of preaching the gospel.
