Explanation

BACKGROUND: This ordinance authorizes the Finance and Management Director to renew a custodial services contract with K&M Kleening Service, Inc. at the Health Department building, 240 Parsons Avenue, in the amount of $339,663.00. The original contract was authorized by Ordinance 1359-2006, passed August 2, 2006. The original contract covered October 21, 2006, through October 20, 2007, with four one-year renewal options. Ordinance 1617-2007, passed October 25, 2007, extended the contract from October 21, 2007, through October 20, 2008. The term for this contract is October 21, 2008, through October 20, 2009. This is the second of the four one-year renewal options.

Emergency action is requested to to allow custodial services continue without interruption, thereby ensuring the accreditation with the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) does not lapse.

Fiscal Impact: The Facilities Management Division budgeted $386,071.00 for this contract in 2008. In 2006, the cost was $297,743.00. In 2007, the cost was $299,880.00. The cost of this contract is $339,663.00.
