Explanation
BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes the Director of the Department of Development to modify Contract EL007379 with Lifecare Alliance by extending the contract termination date from December 31, 2007 to December 31, 2008 and increasing the contract amount by $44,500. Funding for this increase is from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Fund. The additional time and funds will allow the contactor to continue to support the operation of the Chores Program.
The Chores Program provides minor home maintenance and repair services to low and low/moderate-income elderly and disabled homeowner-occupants in the City of Columbus. Examples of program services include replacement or repair of leaking faucets and commodes, faulty light fixtures and switches, loose or missing sections of porch decking or steps and installation of handrails, smoke detectors and deadbolt locks. Eligible homeowners may receive up to $1,000 in home repairs within one calendar year. LifeCare Alliance will be the program provider to neighborhoods on the south and west sides of the City. This program will help about 50 households.
Emergency action is requested so this contract can be extended without interrupting program services.
FISCAL IMPACT: $44,500 is available from the 2008 CDBG Fund budget for this contract increase with Lifecare Alliance.
