Explanation
BACKGROUND: The Columbus Health Department has been awarded a grant from the Ohio Department of Health for the Healthy Ohio Community Obesity Prevention program. This ordinance is needed to accept and appropriate $96,984.00 in grant monies for the period October 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009.
The Healthy Ohio Community Obesity Prevention program works to prevent childhood overweight and obesity by promoting healthy weight and growth in all children, starting with the youngest age group: birth to five years old.
This ordinance is submitted as an emergency so as to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City's accounting system as soon as possible, given the grant start date of October 1, 2008. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management.
FISCAL IMPACT: The program is primarily funded by the Ohio Department of Health and does not generate revenue. A 25% match is required and is budgeted in the Health Special Revenue Fund.
