Explanation
BACKGROUND This ordinance authorizes the Public Service Director to enter into a contract with Columbus Heating and Ventilating Company to renovate the air filtration system for the indoor firing range at the Police Training Academy. Indoor firing ranges generate concentrations of lead dust that impact air quality and may be hazardous to the health and safety of the building occupants and visitors. The current system requires frequent labor-intensive filter changes using expensive HEPA filters and air quality does not meet EPA standards. Renovations include new air supply motors, air filters, and a motor control center.
Formal competitive bids were opened on June 17, 2003 and three bids were received (0 FBE, 0 MBE) as follows:
Columbus Heating and Ventilating Company $80,518.00
Gateway Mechanical $93,135.00
Fox Mechanical $105,740.00
Fiscal Impact: The Police Division has $88,000.00 available in their CIP budget for these renovations.
Emergency action is requested because the firing range will only be available for renovation from September 8-13, 2003.
