TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEMORATE THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2003

WHEREAS, Sunday, September 21, 2003, marks a day the entire world observes a day of peace and non violence; and,
WHEREAS, a peace pole will be installed on this day within our city in the Short North area. The pole will be an obelisk with writing on all sides stating "May Peace prevail in our neighborhood
in our city
in our nation
in our world and in the Short North; and,
WHEREAS, we commend the local efforts of Bishop Cassian of Saint Sophia's Syrian Eastern Orthodox Cathedral who has struggled so hard for so many years to provide a positive place for neighborhood youth; and,
WHEREAS, around the world, peace poles will be planted and persons will commemorate the International Day of Peace in service and prayer for peace. Residents of the City of Columbus are encouraged to acknowledge this special day by participating in community service or some other vehicle that promotes peace in our city.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That we recognize and commemorate the International Day of Peace on Sunday,
September 21, 2003.
