Explanation
OBJECTIVE: To amend Section 2903.01 of the Columbus City Codes to provide for the necessary modification of inspection fees for weighing and measuring devices used in the City of Columbus.
NEED: This amendment will allow the necessary modification of inspection fees for the inspection and testing of commercial weighing and measuring devices.
Background: As a result of a survey of fee schedules by the Office of Weights and Measures on the inspection and testing of commercial weighing and testing devices in the cities of Cincinnati, Cleveland, Philadelphia Pennsylvania, the office of Weights and Measures has proposed a modification of the fees charged by Columbus. This modification is a more realistic assessment of fee schedules in the area and would provide the revenue needed to ensure the continued maintenance of the inspection services now rendered to the public by the city.
Fiscal Impact: This legislation will increase existing fees by an average of about twenty percent and introduce four new fees. Total revenue is projected to increase by approximately $85,000.
