Title
To recognize and honor the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, Beta Omicron Sigma Chapter for their dedicated service to the Columbus Community through the African American Male Leadership Program.
Body
WHEREAS, The Phi Beta Sigma Community Reinvestment and Empowerment Foundation, Inc., African American Male Leadership Program is dedicated to providing support for college entrance and employment success among low-income and minority students. The program offers high school students' information, mentoring and academic support to master the knowledge needed to enter and complete post-secondary education and/or meaningful work; and
WHEREAS, the overall goal of the Sigma African American Male Leadership Program is focused on improving the participation and success of high-risk students in college and work, this year-long program will help to increase the number of economically disadvantaged persons in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio who have access to meaningful employment and/or admitted to post-secondary educational institutions; and
WHEREAS, the target population is defined as African American male high school students, 15 years or older, to include low-income (150% of federal poverty level or less), African-American, Hispanic, and Somali persons, with the published goals of making students aware of the benefits of education and training, equipping students with the skills necessary for leadership at home, work or in the community, and assisting students in selecting a college and career; and
WHEREAS, The African American Male Leadership Program is a series of training modules that provide high school students a systematic way to build their leadership skills and to earn recognition for achievement and service.
