To Honor the Carter - Hearns Family Reunion and Theme “Building Memories - Bridging Generations”

WHEREAS, The Carter-Hearns Family carries a proud and lasting legacy that dates back to 1873, beginning with the union of Jules and Mary Carter and Thomas and Francis Hearns. Over the course of eight generations, this family has grown and flourished, with six living generations today, ranging in age from newborns to 100 years old; and
WHEREAS, From July 4th-6th, 2025, Columbus, Ohio, will serve as the gathering place for at least 150 Carter-Hearns family members traveling from states such as Alabama, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Texas. This special occasion will provide an opportunity for relatives to reconnect, build new relationships, and strengthen the bonds that unite them across generations; and
WHEREAS, The theme of this year’s reunion, "Building Memories - Bridging Generations," emphasizes the importance of strengthening family ties, educating younger generations about their ancestry, and ensuring that the legacy of the Carter-Hearns family continues to be celebrated and preserved for years to come; and
WHEREAS, This reunion will feature meaningful activities, including a banquet at the historic Lincoln Theater, a cookout at Wolfe Park, a Sunday worship service at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, and additional family gatherings at the host hotel, Embassy Suites on Airport Dr., all designed to honor family lineage, cultivate relationships, and create lasting memories; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council hereby recognize the significant occasion of the Carter-Hearns family reunion and their stay in the City of Columbus.
