Explanation
This legislation is for funds that were made available through a contract obtained from the Franklin County Department of Job and Family Services. This legislation will authorize the Director of the Office of Education to expend these funds and enter into contracts with various community organizations. These organizations are listed on the attachment to this ordinance. These contracts will provide funding for after school program services for the period September 28, 2004 through June 30, 2005. The programs are a service for school-aged students of low- and moderate-income working parents. These programs are designed to give children a strong sense of self worth, academic ability, and community responsibility.
FISCAL IMPACT:
A total of $471,540.83 $231,541.67 is available within the private grants fund, fund 291, to fund these after school programs.
EMERGENCY:
It is asked that this ordinance be deemed an emergency and that there be no delays in it's passage. The legislation provides funding for after school programming and because the school year has already started the programs are in need of resources.
