To congratulate Rhonda Johnson, recipient of the 2005 George Meany Award, recognizing outstanding volunteer service to the Columbus community.

WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country, is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business and labor leaders who have given outstanding volunteer service to the community; and
 
WHEREAS, the George Meany Award, named after the late George Meany, former President of the national AFL-CIO, is presented by the Central Ohio AFL-CIO to a labor person for outstanding leadership and support of health, welfare and recreation services to the Central Ohio Community; and
 
WHEREAS, this year's recipient, Rhonda Johnson, serves her community as a long-time member and current President of the Columbus Education Association, and has dedicated her time to a number of community and national activities, including service on the board of the Consumers Counsel of Ohio; co-chair of the 2003 United Way of Central Ohio fundraising campaign; and a member of the United Way board of trustees; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
 
That this Council does hereby congratulate the recipient of the 2005 George Meany Award, Rhonda Johnson, whose leadership and voluntary commitment through the labor movement's community services programs have made a significant contribution to the City of Columbus.
