Explanation

Background:
This ordinance will enable the Director of Recreation and Parks to accept a grant from and enter into an agreement with the Columbus Foundation for $22,997.00 and to appropriate these monies to the Recreation and Parks Grant Fund to develop the Hayden Falls Boardwalk. Grant from Joseph A. Jeffrey Endowment Fund of the Columbus Foundation.

The City of Columbus will construct a boardwalk, viewing platform, and stairs at Hayden Falls Park and has agreed to a target completion date of December 31, 2006.

Emergency action is requested to have funding available for necessary expenditures.

Fiscal Impact:
$22,997.00 is budgeted in the Recreation and Parks Grant Fund to meet the financial obligation of this contract.

WHEREAS, the Columbus Foundation has awarded the City of Columbus a grant for the purpose of development of the Hayden Falls boardwalk; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary to appropriate said funds to the Recreation and Parks Department for expenditures in conjunction with the Hayden Falls boardwalk development; and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Recreation and Parks Department in that it is immediately necessary to accept said grant funds and appropriate said funds to have funding available for necessary expenditures; now, therefore

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

SECTION 1. That the Director of Recreation and Parks be and he is hereby authorized and directed to accept a grant in the amount of $22,997.00 from the Columbus Foundation for the development of the Hayden Falls boardwalk.
