To Recognize March 2025 as “Social Work Month”

WHEREAS, social workers have long been dedicated to fostering the well-being of individuals, families, and communities, driven by a profound commitment to service and social justice, and;
WHEREAS, the social work profession has played a critical role in advancing social progress by championing policies that enhance equity, expand access to quality health care, and protect vulnerable populations, and;
WHEREAS, social workers are guided by a Code of Ethics that emphasizes service to others, the pursuit of social change, respect for the inherent dignity of all people, the importance of human relationships, trustworthiness and integrity, and the endless pursuit of professional and personal development, and;
WHEREAS, social workers operate in diverse settings, including schools, hospitals, community organizations, and government agencies, providing essential services that reinforce the social fabric of our communities through unwavering commitment, expertise, and compassion, and;
WHEREAS, social workers are at the forefront of addressing critical issues such as mental health disparities, economic inequality, and the impacts of trauma, while also advocating for policies that promote equity and inclusion across the nation, and;
WHEREAS, this year’s Social Work Month theme, “Social Work: Compassion in Action,” underscores the vital role social workers play in translating empathy into meaningful change, addressing the complex needs of those they serve, now therefore;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby recognize the month of March as Social Work Month; and does hereby recognize the numerous contributions and continued advocacy by NASW and Central Ohio’s Social Workers.
