Explanation
Background: This ordinance authorizes the Director of the Recreation and Parks Department to enter into contract with S.G. Loewendick & Sons for the Demolition Program 2021-2022 Project. The contract amount is $199,600.00, with a contingency of $150,400.00, for a total of $350,000.00 being authorized for this contract by this ordinance. An additional $2,000.00 is being authorized for interdepartmental inspections and fees for a total of $352,000.00 being authorized by this ordinance.
The 2021-2022 Demolition Program includes the demolition of six structures at four sites. At McCoy Park, a block restroom structure will be removed. At Sammons Park, a concession building and announcer stand structure will be removed. At the site of the former Douglas School, the school building and play equipment will be removed in preparation for the construction of the new arts and senior campus. At the Smith Farm site, the art barn and farmhouse will also be removed. The demolition of these structures will improve the safety and security of these sites and make way for future park improvements and programming. The demolition work is anticipated to begin in fall 2022 and finish in spring 2023 at all sites.
Vendor Bid/Proposal Submissions (ODI designation status):
Bids were advertised through Vendor Services, in accordance with City Code Section 329, on August 9, 2022 and received by the Recreation and Parks Department on August 30, 2022. This project was also picked up by various local and regional plan rooms and distributed to their membership. Bids were received from the following companies:
S.G. Loewendick & Sons, Inc. (MAJ): $199,600.00
Watson General Contracting (MAJ): $275,386.00
