To Recognize and Celebrate Renée Shumate as a Distinguished Honoree of the 2024 Columbus Urban League Herstory Makers Event

WHEREAS, Thursday, May 16, 2024 is the Columbus Urban League’s annual Herstory Makers signature event, which will honor eight trailblazing women in Central Ohio; and
WHEREAS, Renée is a life-long Columbus resident, who is a passionate advocate for the community, women, and the underserved and she believes in the importance of offering a hand up and not just a handout; and
WHEREAS, She currently serves as External Affairs Manager for American Electric Power where she manages AEP Ohio’s external affairs and local economic development initiatives, and like AEP, she seeks to add value to a variety of boards and organizations that support the community, especially initiatives that empower, educate, develop, and advance women and minorities; and
WHEREAS, She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Community Shelter Board and Columbus Metropolitan Library Foundation Board, and additionally, Renée is a founding member and Past Chair of The Women’s Leadership Council for United Way of Central Ohio, and a founding member of the Matriots, a nonpartisan Ohio political action committee focused on electing more women to public office; and
WHEREAS, Renée wants to create a pathway for the next generation, focusing on disparities for Black women and the underserved to thrive and prosper, and she is grateful for all who have mentored and helped develop her and is committed to using her time, talent, treasure, and touch for the next generation of women leaders; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council recognizes and celebrates Renée Shumate as a Distinguished Honoree at the 2024 Columbus Urban League Herstory Makers Event.
