Explanation
BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes the Director of the Mayor's Office of Education to accept, appropriate and expend funds from the Columbus Foundation Jeffrey Fund for a middle school robotics program. Students from Columbus middle schools will design a robot for a competition in May 2008. The program will operate two Saturdays per month at St. Stephen's Community House.
FISCAL IMPACT: Program dollars are solely from the Columbus Foundation Jeffrey Fund. This program will not be supported with any city dollars.

To authorize the Director of the Mayor's Office of Education to accept a grant from the Columbus Foundation Jeffrey Fund in the amount of $20,000, and to appropriate, enter into contract with St. Stephen's Community House and authorize the expenditure of $20,000, for the purpose of providing robotics programming to middle school students; and to declare an emergency. ($20,000.00)

WHEREAS, The Director of the Mayor's Office of Education desires to accept the Columbus Foundation Jeffrey Fund grant in the amount of $20,000.00; and
WHEREAS, The Director of the Mayor's Office of Education desires to appropriate said monies into the Education Special Grants fund 291, Grant number 400002, OCA 400002, object level 03-3336; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the Director of the Mayor's Office of Education to contract with St.Stephen's Community House; and
WHEREAS, St. Stephen's will use the appropriated funds to provide robotics programming to Columbus middle school students; and
WHEREAS,emergency action is necessary to allow the Director of the Office of Education to enter into contract and complete before the 2007-2008 school year ends ;and
WHEREAS; an emergency exists in the daily operation of the Mayor's Office of Education in that it is immediately necessary to enter into contract with St Stephen's, all for the immediate preservation of the public health , peace, safety and welfare; ...
