Explanation

Background: This legislation authorizes a modification to the General Engineering Bikeways contract with Burgess & Niple, Ltd. The scope of this contract is to provide construction plans for designing traffic calming elements along Longrifle Road. This modification is necessary to complete and finalize the design and plans. Design changes were required to add these traffic calming features and to bring the plans up to date. Contract EA012949-002 & 004 was authorized by ordinance 1690-99 passed July 12, 1999, executed July 28, 1999, and was approved by the City Attorney August 3, 1999. The existing contract hourly rates, and projected times were used to determine the amount of this modification. Burgess & Niple, CC #31-0885550 (expiring 1/8/09), was selected in accordance with Chapter 329 for professional services contracts. The original contract amount was for $250,000.00. The total for this modification is $50,000.00. The contract amount including all modifications will be $350,000.00

Fiscal Impact: Funds in the amount of $50,000.00 are budgeted in the 2007 Capital Improvement Budget and available from the 2007 bond sale.

Emergency action is requested for immediate modification of the design contract for the earliest possible completion of the design to stay on schedule for construction and preserve the safety and welfare of the public.
