Explanation
Background: This legislation will authorize the Director of Recreation and Parks to accept a grant in the amount of $166,558.00 and enter into agreement with the United Way of Central Ohio for the 2008 Summer Program for Youth. This grant money will be used to provide funding for youth, ages 3 1/2 to 17, so they can participate in Recreation and Parks summer camp experiences, including soccer, football, art, tennis, cheerleading and many other outdoor activities. Funding is being provided by the Franklin County Board of Commissioners and the program is being administered by the United Way of Central Ohio. The purpose of these funds, in part, is to provide children of low income families the opportunity to participate in outside activities while the parents maintain their jobs. Parents of the recipients must reside in Franklin County and be determined TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) eligible. Franklin County Jobs and Family Services will provide the staff training on TANF eligibility.
