Explanation

Background: This legislation is to modify and increase the construction contract with Strawser Paving Company (contract compliance #31-4412354, expiring 3/7/09) for Resurfacing 2004 Project 4 in an amount up to $15,712.57. This project constructed ADA curb ramps and resurfaced streets in various areas of Columbus. This contract is being modified to pay for additional traffic signal loop detectors that were necessary to complete this project.

Emergency action is requested for immediate modification of the construction contract so that the project may be completed in 2008.

The original contract amount was for: $ 3,036,633.34
The total of Modification No. 1 is: $ 15,712.57
The total of all prior modifications is: $ 0.00
The contract amount including all modifications is: $ 3,052,345.91

Fiscal Impact: Funds are budgeted and available from the Voted 1995, 1999, 2004 Streets and Highways Fund for this project for the Transportation Division.

Body

WHEREAS, contract no. EL005123 was authorized by ordinance no. 2141-04, passed January 10, 2005, executed February 25, 2005; and

WHEREAS, it is necessary to modify this contract to cover overruns for Resurfacing 2004 Project 4; and

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Department of Public Service, Transportation Division, in that the contract should be modified and increased immediately so that the work may proceed without delay, thereby preserving the public health, peace, property, safety and welfare; now, therefore
