Explanation
This legislation authorizes the Administrative and Presiding Judge of the Franklin County Municipal Court to accept a grant from the State of Ohio, Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, for enhanced probationary services with two probation officers. These two probation officers supervise individuals with multiple convictions for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. This legislation also will appropriate $146,205 from the general government grant fund. Grant monies will fund the salaries and benefits of two probation officers as well as training, probationer bus transportation, and various office equipment in the Franklin County Municipal Court from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009

EMERGENCY ACTION is requested in order for this new cycle of funding to be in place as close to July 1, 2008 as possible.

To authorize the Administrative and Presiding Judge of the Franklin County Municipal Court to accept a grant award from the State of Ohio, Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, for enhanced probationary services; to appropriate $146,205 from the unappropriated balance of the general government grant fund; and to declare an emergency. WHEREAS, it is in the city's best interest that the Franklin County Municipal Court continue to receive support for its enhanced probationary services for offenders with multiple convictions for operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs; and
WHEREAS, grant monies from the State of Ohio, Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, in the amount of $146,205 are available to provide for salaries and benefits, as well as training, probationer bus transportation, and various office equipment of the two probation officers; and
