Explanation
This ordinance accepts the collective bargaining contract between the City of Columbus and AFSCME Local 1632 and Ohio Council 8, covering the period April 1, 2008 through March 31, 2011.
All Articles of this contract and attachments thereto have been approved by the City and the Union. A signed contract will be on file in the Department of Human Resources.
Emergency action is recommended because certain provisions of the Contract are effective on a retroactive basis.
The terms of the new contract and the fiscal impact were summarized in a memorandum to City Council, dated June 20, 2008.

To accept the proposed collective bargaining contract between the City of Columbus and AFSCME Local 1632 and Ohio Council 8, April 1, 2008 -March 31, 2011, to provide for wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment for employees in the bargaining unit as provided in Attachment A attached hereto; and to declare an emergency.

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the City in that it is immediately necessary to accept the collective bargaining contract negotiated between the City and AFSCME Local 1632 and Ohio Council 8, April 1, 2008 -March 31, 2011, to provide for wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment for employees in the bargaining unit thereby preserving public peace, property, health, safety, and welfare; Now, Therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
Section 1. The Council of the City of Columbus hereby accepts the proposed collective bargaining contract between the City and AFSCME Local 1632 and Ohio Council 8, attached hereto as Attachment A and incorporated herein in its entirety as if fully rewritten herein, to establish the wages, hours and other terms and conditions of employment for employees in the bargaining unit, as specified and stated in Attachment A.
