Explanation
Background:
This ordinance will authorize the Director of Recreation and Parks to enter into a contract with LifeCare Alliance in connection with the Senior Farmer's Market Nutrition Program.

This program will provide vouchers for seniors to redeem with local organized markets including the North Market in various Central Ohio counties.

Approximately 3,860 individuals are expected to receive vouchers.

Emergency action is requested so that the program can be implemented by June 1, 2010 in accordance with grant conditions.

This ordinance is contingent upon the passage of the appropriation ordinance (0492-2010).

Fiscal Impact:
$202,150.00 is required from the Recreation and Parks Grant fund.

Body
Whereas, federal and state funding for the Senior Farmer's Market Nutrition Program was awarded to the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging from the Ohio Department of Aging; and

Whereas, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Recreation and Parks Department in that it is immediately necessary to enter into said contract as services need to be implemented by June 1, 2010, thereby preserving the public health, peace, property, safety, and welfare; NOW, THEREFORE

BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

Section 1. That the Director of Recreation and Parks be and he is hereby authorized and directed to enter into a contract in the amount of up to $202,150.00 with LifeCare Alliance for the Senior Farmer's Market Nutrition Program for the period June 1, 2010 through October 31, 2010.
