Explanation
BACKGROUND: This ordinance authorizes the Finance and Management Director to renew a contract with Kone, Inc. for the maintenance and service of elevators in various City facilities under the purview of the Facilities Management Division. The original contract was authorized by City Council by Ordinance No. 1230-2008. It was then renewed by Ordinance No. 0848-2009.
Required maintenance and services on elevators is necessary to maintain the State of Ohio Elevator Operating Certificate and ensuring no disruption in service, thereby protecting the safety of elevator users. This ordinance authorizes the second of five renewal options. The term of this contract is August 1, 2010 through July 31, 2011.
Fiscal Impact: The Facilities Management Division budgeted $156,800.00 in the General Fund budget. The cost of the elevator contract in 2008 was $141,000.00. The cost of the renewal authorized by this contract is $158,800.00. The small overrun will be funded by reducing monies budgeted for unexpected emergencies. In years past, most emergencies addressed by the Facilities Management Division were caused by extreme cold weather. To date in 2010, no significant emergencies have arisen.
Kone, Inc. Contract Compliance No. 36-2357423; expiration date July 10, 2010.
