Explanation
1. BACKGROUND:
This legislation authorizes the Director of Public Service to enter into a professional engineering services contract with E.P. Ferris & Associates, Inc.

The intent of this project is to provide the City of Columbus, Department of Public Service, additional resources to perform design of signal projects. The projects developed under this program are typically small to moderate size improvements, and frequently include performing a traffic study to determine if a signal is warranted, designing roadway improvements such as turn lanes, designing a new signal, designing a replacement signal, or modifying an existing signal.

In addition, existing underground conduit shall be identified to determine feasibility of re-use. If new conduit is determined necessary, Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) level B, and A if needed, will be performed to determine new conduit paths for traffic signal interconnect, cable, and power. The designs will include ensuring that ADA requirements are met with each project.

The selected consultant shall be readily available to perform such tasks when requested by the City. Services on request and detailed scopes of individual projects will be developed as requested and work will be authorized as individual scopes are developed. The ability to complete projects in a short timeframe will be a critical point in the evaluation process. The consultant shall be expected to work on multiple projects concurrently. The consultant should refer to this description when preparing their proposal for understanding, schedule, and tasks defined.
