Explanation
BACKGROUND: This legislation authorizes the Finance and Management Director to modify a contract on behalf of the Office of Construction Management with Meggitt Training Systems the renovation of the Police Indoor Range Equipment at 2609 McKinley Avenue.
The original contract was authorized by Ordinance No. 0721-2011, passed May 24, 2011, for the purpose of renovating the Police indoor shooting range. It was subsequently modified by Ordinance No. 0701-2012, passed April 19, 2012, so as to address the addition of the existing light fixtures to accommodate the new baffle ceiling system, to furnish and install a new rifle rated double door, and for the addition of replacement flooring. This modification will authorize the installation of a new bullet trap dust collection system. A by-product of a shooting range is lead, which must be captured and properly disposed. Meggitt Training Systems has institutional knowledge of the project and performed the original renovations. It is practical and cost effective for the coordination and continuity of the project to use them for this modification.

Emergency action is requested due to the lead-time in ordering materials and the need for these renovations to occur as soon as practical.

Meggitt Training Systems Contract Compliance No. 58-2272995; expiration date March 29, 2013.
Fiscal Impact: The cost of this contract is $154,623.00. This ordinance authorizes the expenditure of $154,623.00 from the Safety Voted Bond Fund.
