Explanation
The Columbus Clippers, the City's Triple-A professional baseball team, will move into their new downtown home for the start of the 2009 baseball season. In 2006 Huntington Bancshares, Inc. ("Huntington") announced their intention to purchase the naming rights for this new stadium, which is now known as Huntington Park. The Public Service Department, Transportation Division, recently received a request from Huntington in conjunction with the Mayor's Office asking that Hanover Street, from Long Street north to Nationwide Boulevard, be renamed as Huntington Park Lane in recognition of the significant investment Huntington has made in the redevelopment of the Arena District and in particular in the baseball stadium. Owners of all affected properties have been notified of this requested change. Owners on the east side of the street have accepted the change. The owner of the property on the west side has not responded. However, this property does not have any structures on it, so no business is affected.

WHEREAS, in 2006 Huntington Bancshares, Inc. ("Huntington") announced their intention to purchase the naming rights for this new stadium, which is now known as Huntington Park; and
WHEREAS, the Public Service Department, Transportation Division, recently received a request from Huntington in conjunction with the Mayor's Office asking that Hanover Street, from Long Street north to Nationwide Boulevard, be renamed as Huntington Park Lane in recognition of the significant investment Huntington has made in the redevelopment of the Arena District and in particular in the baseball stadium; and
WHEREAS, the adjacent property owners have been advised of the proposed name change and have indicated they have no objections to such a change; and
WHEREAS, the Transportation Division recommends the name of that right-of-way currently identified as Hanover Street, from Long Street north to Nationwide Boulevard, be changed to Huntington Park Lane; now, therefore
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
Section 1. That the name of that right-of-way currently identified as Hanover Street, from Long Street north to Nationwide Boulevard, be changed to Huntington Park Lane.
Section 2. That this ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
