Explanation

Background: This legislation authorizes the Director of the Department of Development to amend the exiting contract with the Central Ohio Workforce Investment Corporation (COWIC) for the purpose of supporting the continued administration of workforce development programs and services. COWIC is a one stop employment service provider. The mission is to meet the employment needs of businesses and job seekers to support economic development in Central Ohio. The mission will be achieved by focusing on four key areas. These four areas include people, program, processes and performance. The organization is responsible for determining policy on a variety of workforce issues, recommending certification of training programs for providers and ensuring that the Central Ohio’s labor supply is prepared to meet the needs of local employers now and in the future.

Fiscal Impact: This legislation authorizes the appropriation and expenditure of $50,000.00 from the General Fund.

WHEREAS, the Central Ohio Workforce Investment Corporation (COWIC) is responsible for determining policy on a variety of workforce issues, recommending certification of training programs for providers and ensuring that the Central Ohio’s labor force supply is prepared to meet the needs of local employers now and in the future; and

WHEREAS, the contract needs to be amended to add an additional $50,000.00 from the General Fund; and

WHEREAS, the mission of COWIC is to meet the employment needs of businesses and job seekers to support economic development in Central Ohio; and
