To recognize the 2nd Annual Veterans' Appreciation Day Luncheon held on Veterans Day.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, The 2nd annual Veterans' Appreciation Day is being held on Veterans Day at the Department of Recreation & Parks Franklin Park Indoor Adventure Center facility at 1755 East Broad Street. 

WHEREAS, President Lincoln affirmed our government’s obligation to care for those injured during the war and to provide for their families when he spoke the words “let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation’s wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow, and his orphan, and;

 

WHEREAS, The Armistice ending the first World War was recognized on the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month in 1918 and we have continued to mark that event as Veterans’ Day and;

 

WHEREAS, It is the responsibility of our city and cities across this free nation to take special care in thanking our nation’s heroes and sheroes for their selfless service in times of both war and peace, and

 

WHEREAS, Today, we are gathered here to recognize you for your service, but also your choice to continue your public service by working for our city, and;

 

WHEREAS, In an effort to recognize that service, City Council wishes to provide a small tangible appreciation for the sacrifices made by our veterans and active duty service members; and

WHEREAS, The City of Columbus will continue to not only to express our gratitude to the men and women who have fought for our freedoms, but live it as well, now therefore;

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

 

That this council does hereby recognize the city’s 2nd annual Veterans’ Appreciation Day and thanks its Veterans' for their service to this nation and their continued service to our great city.
