To honor, recognize, and celebrate Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson.

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, Cardinal Turkson has served as the President of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace since confirmation by Pope Francis on September 24th, 2013 ; and

 

WHEREAS, Cardinal Turkson was appointed Archbishop of Cape Coast, Ghana on October 6th, 1992 and received episcopal ordination on March 27th, 1993; and

                     

WHEREAS, being recognized and respected around the world as a Scriptural Scholar, Cardinal Turkson has advocated for the poor and disenfranchised, and has served as a spokesperson for protecting the environment as a matter of social justice; and

 

WHEREAS, being regarded as the face of climate change at the Vatican, Cardinal Turkson has stimulated a great movement within and without the Catholic world in regards to environmental sustainability, morality, and society; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

 

To honor, recognize, and celebrate Cardinal Peter Kodwo Appiah Turkson for providing continued awareness and understanding of the Catholic environmental teaching that has become a topic of conversations around the world.
