To honor, recognize, and celebrate the Life and Achievement of Mr. Lonnie Poindexter after a lifetime of public service to the Columbus community.
Body
WHEREAS, Mr. Poindexter was born October 8th, 1952 and grew up in the Linden Community of North Columbus. Graduating in 1972 from Linden-McKinley High School, Mr. Poindexter became a lifetime advocate for the Linden community; and
WHEREAS, continuing his quest for community service, Mr. Poindexter served the Columbus Fire Department for 17 years as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and a Firefighter. Mr. Poindexter also invested a great deal of time serving Charity Newsies, the Central Ohio Labor Council, and Ohio State University’s Athletic Department; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure with the Columbus Fire Department, Mr. Poindexter served as the Coordinator for the Juvenile Fire Setter Program, which won a national award for facilitating one of the best programs for children with issues relating to fire setting. Mr. Poindexter also founded the Columbus Firefighter Athletic League, a sports program for inner-city youth; and
WHEREAS, in an effort to continue giving back to the Linden community, not only did Mr. Poindexter served on the St. Stephen’s Community House board of trustees, he also provided two decades of service as a full-time staff member; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Poindexter was a recipient of many awards including, the Jefferson Award for Community Service, the Blue Chip Award, as well as being named the Linden Community Citizen of the Year; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
To honor, recognize, and celebrate the Life and Achievement of Mr. Lonnie Poindexter after a lifetime of public service to the Columbus community and being another great reason why Columbus is the best place to live, work, and raise a family.
