Title

 

To Recognize and Congratulate Chief of Police Kim Jacobs for being named a YWCA Woman of Achievement for 2016.

 

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, YWCA Columbus annually honors a select group of Columbus women who have made extraordinary contributions to their families, workplaces, and communities; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Jacobs began her exemplary career with the Columbus Division of Police in 1979, only four years after the Division first began training female officers; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Jacobs was the first woman in the history of the Columbus Division of Police to be promoted to Commander in 1995 and to Deputy Chief in 2009; and

 

WHEREAS, In 2012, Chief Jacobs became the first woman and the first open LGBT community member to serve as Chief of Police in Columbus; and

 

WHEREAS, During her tenure Chief Jacobs has been committed to improving the operations of the Division. She has acted as a catalyst for initiatives such as the Division’s Citizen Police Academy; creation of the fifth radio talk group, to reduce radio chatter; implementation of a separate Domestic Violence report; and the complete reorganization of Internal Affairs to investigate all citizen complaints; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Jacobs represented the City of Columbus in 2010, when she hosted President Obama at the graduation ceremony of the Division of Police’s 114th recruit class; and

 

WHEREAS, Chief Jacobs represents the Columbus Division of Police locally as a Board Member for The Center for Family Safety and Healing; in the state of Ohio, serving on the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission; and nationally, as a member of the Major Cities Chiefs Association; and

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: 

 

That this Council does hereby express its appreciation for the outstanding contributions that have been made by Chief of Police Kim Jacobs to the City of Columbus, and this Council congratulates her on receiving the honor of being named a YWCA Woman of Achievement.
