Explanation

Columbus Public Health has been awarded additional funding from InHealth Mutual for the Minority Health Local Conversations Grant Program. This ordinance is needed to accept the additional funding of $1,000.00 in grant monies for the Minority Health Local Conversations Grant Program for the period of January 1, 2016 through June 30, 2016.

The Minority Health Grant Program enables Columbus Public Health to work to eliminate differences in health status between racial and ethnic minority and non-minority populations by providing leadership and guidance on best ways to address racial and ethnic health disparities and specific health needs of racial and ethnic minority groups. The purpose of the Local Conversations Grant Program is to host community forums in the City in order to continue to develop our Minority Health Program. In total, the Office of Minority Health at Columbus Public Health expects to reach a total of 100 community members through the hosted forums, specifically members from the following population groups: Bhutanese Nepali, Latino, Somali, and African American.

This ordinance is submitted as an emergency so delay in service does not occur since the grant started January 1, 2016.

FISCAL IMPACT: The Minority Health Local Conversations Grant Program is partially funded by the Ohio Commission on Minority Health and requires a City match that is budgeted in Health’s Operating Fund, Fund No. 2250.
