Explanation

BACKGROUND: Columbus Public Health has been awarded a grant from the Ohio Department of Health. This ordinance is needed to accept and appropriate $10,000.00 to fund the Healthy Homes Awareness grant program, for the period of April 1, 2016 through June 30, 2016. The primary objective for this grant is to raise awareness in communities about the benefits of having a lead safe and healthy home by conducting education and outreach activities.

This ordinance is submitted as an emergency given the grant start date of April 1, 2016.

FISCAL IMPACT: The Healthy Homes Awareness Grant program is entirely funded by the Ohio Department of Health. This program does not generate any revenue or require a City match.

WHEREAS, $10,000 in grant funds have been made available through the Ohio Department of Health for the Healthy Homes Awareness Grant Program for the period of April 1, 2016 through June 30, 2016; and,

WHEREAS, it is necessary to accept and appropriate these funds from the Ohio Department of Health for the support of the Healthy Homes Awareness Grant Program; and,

WHEREAS, this ordinance is submitted as an emergency so as to allow the financial transaction to be posted in the City’s accounting system as soon as possible. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management; and,

WHEREAS, an emergency exists in the usual daily operation of the Health Department in that it is immediately necessary to accept these grant funds from the Ohio Department of Health and to appropriate these funds to the Health Department for the immediate preservation of the public health, p...
