To honor and recognize the work of the American Red Cross and to congratulate Nationwide Insurance on being named as the 2016 American Red Cross Humanitarian of the Year Award Recipient.

WHEREAS, the American Red Cross plays an integral role in helping local communities to prepare, respond, and to recover from emergencies; and
WHEREAS, the American Red Cross “Ohio Buckeye Region“ serves more than 4 million residents in 45 counties spanning from Toledo to Columbus; and even as far away as Marietta; and
WHEREAS, the Humanitarian of the Year Award, presented annually by the American Red Cross, recognizes local individuals or groups whose efforts and accomplishments have made our city a better place to live and to work; and
WHEREAS, the American Red Cross will celebrate its 100th Anniversary, honoring Nationwide as the 2016 Humanitarian of the Year award recipient for their tireless work at improving the qualit Simpson y of life in our community; as demonstrated through their philanthropic support of Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, and others; and
WHEREAS the American Red Cross of Central Ohio will recognize and celebrate past, present, and future exemplary community members for their humanitarian work on Wednesday May 25th 2016 - the 20th Anniversary of the Humanitarian of the Year Award; an annual luncheon which has grossed more than $4 million since its inception in 1997; these funds have been used to support the life-saving services and programs offered by the American Red Cross of Central Ohio; and
WHEREAS, the members of Columbus City Council and the residents of our community join the American Red Cross in applauding and congratulating Nationwide on this achievement; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby honor and recognize the work of the American Red Cross and congratulates Nationwide Insurance on being named as the 2016 American Red Cross Humanitarian of the Year Award Recipient.
