To honor, recognize, and celebrate the life of Ms. Dorothy Jean Mason “Dot” and to extend our sincerest condolences to her family and friends on the occasion of her passing, Sunday May 22, 2016.

Body

WHEREAS, Ms. Dorothy Jean Mason (“Dot”) slipped away peacefully and quietly to be with the Lord on May 22, 2016, surrounded by those that she loved; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy was born on October 20, 1940 to loving parents, Princella Cole-Farrow and Amil Cole in Harlan County, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy was a very bright, intelligent and God-fearing woman; devoted to her sons, Attorney Renny J. Tyson and Anthony R. Mason; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy was an avid reader, who enjoyed shopping, was extremely thrifty; loved cooking, especially for her sons and family; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy was a loving mother who practiced caring but tough love for her sons; and as a single mother for much of the time, she demonstrated a selflessness and never-ending love for her children; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy gave all to her children, which enabled them to move the family forward. Dorothy understood the importance of education and taught that hard work, perseverance and belief in God could get a person through any situation; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy loved her family and as a hardworking, loving, God-fearing woman she refused to take any mess from anyone and taught those she loved to do the same. She doted on her children and grandchildren, so long as they did not “act a fool”. She adored her grandchildren who always brought a smile to her face; she also worked hard to put her sons through Yale University, Case Western Reserve University Law School and Miami of Ohio University undergraduate and graduate schools; and

WHEREAS, Dorothy leaves this life having achieved the ultimate goal, a life of selfless love and dedication to others, having earned glory and God’s blessings. She was a good, gifted woman, worthy of reward for a life well lived, now therefore,
