Explanation
BACKGROUND: Columbus Public Health has been awarded additional funding from the Ohio Department of Health for the Immunization Action Plan grant program. The grant period for the Immunization Action Plan grant program has also been extended to March 31, 2017. This ordinance is needed to accept the additional funding of $132,252.00 in grant monies for the Immunization Action Plan grant program and to also extend the grant period from January 1, 2016 through December 31, 2016 to January 1, 2016 through March 31, 2017.
The IAP program will enable Columbus Public Health to ensure that critical elements of vaccine are provided and the vaccine delivery system is adequate; to establish and maintain a high level of awareness and demand for immunizations by parents, particularly racial/ethnic minority parents and other under-served population groups; and to accurately measure the ability of local vaccine providers to raise immunizations levels in children under the age of two toward the goal of 90% coverage.
This ordinance is submitted as an emergency so as to allow the financial transactions to be posted in the City’s accounting system as soon as possible given the additional funding requirements and time frame the items need to be purchased. Up to date financial posting promotes accurate accounting and financial management.
FISCAL IMPACT: The Immunization Action Plan grant program is funded by the Ohio Department of Health (grant award of $132,252.00). The grant is administered in the Health Department Grants Fund.
