To declare the week of May 8 through 15, 2017 Light Central Ohio Blue Week in Columbus, Ohio.

WHEREAS, In honor of our men and women in uniform, downtown Columbus has come together to “Light Central Ohio Blue” from May 8 through May 15, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Every day, over 1900 officers of the Columbus Division of Police face the challenge of keeping every Columbus neighborhood safe with bravery and honor; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Columbus Division of Police perform their duty under the direction of five core values; Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Discipline, and Enthusiasm; and
WHEREAS, “Light Central Ohio Blue” is also an opportunity to remember those Law Enforcement Officers who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, In 2016 Columbus suffered the loss of one of its finest, Officer Steve Smith. He will always be remembered for his dedication to this City; and
WHEREAS, In 2016, Mr. William Swank began this campaign in honor of the first responders in our Columbus community; and
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby declare May 8-15, 2017 as “Light Central Ohio Blue” Week and expresses its gratitude to the women and men of the Columbus Division of Police for their service to the City of Columbus.
