To Recognize and Support the Family Mentor Foundation and Their Contribution to the City of Columbus

 

Body

WHEREAS, Family Mentor Foundation is a Columbus-based non profit organization that seeks to help meet the needs of children in the Columbus and surrounding area communities through a variety of programs and resources that will help them to reach their full potential; and

WHEREAS, through the Buddy Bag program, Family Mentor Foundation partners with local schools in Columbus and in other communities to distribute child-friendly, nutritious food to 350 children every week during the school year; and

WHEREAS, the children served qualify for free and reduced breakfast and lunch programs during the week but do not have reliable access to food during the weekend, hindering their physical and mental development, health and behavior, impacting school performance and long-term growth performance in school and have long-term consequences; and

WHEREAS, each Buddy Bag is filled with kid-friendly, nutritious, nonperishable food and individual sized goods for these children; and

WHEREAS, the need is great, demonstrated by the fact that  there are 1,200 kids on the Family Mentor Foundation waiting list for service and in 2015, and 13.5 million or about 20 percent of children in the U.S. lived in poverty; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

That this Council does hereby recognize and support the Family Mentor Foundation and wish the organization nothing but the best as they strive to meet the nutritional needs of our community’s youngest residents in need on the occasion of the Foundation’s Community Appreciation Open House on this day, May 10th, 2017.
