Title

To recognize September 15th through October 15th as Hispanic Heritage Month in honor of the contributions by Hispanics to their communities.

 

Body

WHEREAS,  September 15th through October 15th has been declared as Hispanic Heritage Month to honor the role that Hispanics play and have played in the economic, cultural and social development of our Nation; and

 

WHEREAS, Hispanics make up a significant portion of the labor force working as elected officials, CEOs, small business owners, entrepreneurs and homemakers providing leadership, guidance and support, all of which strengthen our economy; and

 

WHEREAS,  in the City of Columbus, Latinos have distinguished themselves as capable business owners, creating jobs, paying wages and providing a positive force in our local communities and neighborhoods; and

 

WHEREAS, Latino business owners are inspirations to their families, employees and community. They are role models whose success stories we can learn from and emulate; and

 

WHEREAS, when Hispanics succeed, our nation, state, region and our city succeeds; their potential is limited by nothing but the depth of their imagination; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:  That this Council does hereby proclaim, September 15th through October 15th, 2017 as “Hispanic Heritage Month” in the City of Columbus, recognize the many accomplishments and contributions made by Latinos, and to encourage all residents to learn more about those who have played such an important role in our history.
