To Recognize and Celebrate Ohio Loves Transit Day on February 14, 2018

WHEREAS, on February 14, 2018, the Ohio Public Transit Association (OPTA) is promoting a statewide initiative to celebrate Transit in Ohio how and how it is helping move Ohio forward; and
WHEREAS, public transportation can provide a better quality of life to every community in central Ohio including: individuals, families, children, seniors, and persons living with disabilities and is a one of many critical solutions for our region’s economic, energy, and environmental challenges; and
WHEREAS, public transportation drives central Ohio’s economy by making it easy for consumers to visit malls, plazas, and other shopping venues; Services to Ohio’s airports makes traveling easier and less expensive for Ohioans whether they’re flying for business or pleasure; Libraries or parks, hike and bike trails, bowling alleys, and countless other leisure time destinations line transit routes across the state; and
WHEREAS, Ohio’s 61 transit systems provide a vital link to hundreds of thousands of people, with more than 60,000 trips alone occurring in central Ohio. Our local transit agency, Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) provides access to reliable, cost-effective transportation to our local residents daily; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this Council does hereby recognize and celebrate Ohio Loves Transit Day on February 14, 2018.
