To congratulate Katie Coplin for receiving the 2018 Central Ohio AFL-CIO Girl Scout Award

 

Body

 

WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards Banquet, the largest labor recognition of its kind in the country is a night for the Central Ohio AFL-CIO and the United Way Community Services Department to recognize local business and labor leaders who have given outstanding volunteer service to the community; and

 

WHEREAS, The George Meany Awards, named after the late George Meany, former President of the national AFL-CIO, are presented by the Central Ohio AFL-CIO to a labor person for outstanding leadership and support of health, welfare and recreation services to the Central Ohio Community; and

 

WHEREAS,  Katie is a second and third grade teacher for Upper Arlington City Schools, and has been teaching for over fifteen years. She has also taught in South-Western City Schools and Grandview Heights City Schools; and

 

WHEREAS,  Katie has been active in the Girl Scouts since she was five years old. She was first a leader in the scouts from 2002 through 2004 and is currently in her third year as the leader of Troop 1272; and

 

WHEREAS,  Katie is an active member of her community through her Church and through the schools in addition to her leadership and work with the Girl Scouts. One of the most important parts of work in education is learning through service, and she encourages students to follow through with projects that are not just interesting to them, but ones that also make an impact; now therefore,

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:

That we hereby congratulate Katie Coplin as the 2018 Central Ohio AFL-CIO Girl Scout Award recipient.
