To commemorate Randy Black for his outstanding service to the City of Columbus and to congratulate Randy on his retirement

WHEREAS, Randy F. Black has served as the City’s Historic Preservation Officer for 15 years, capping off a long, varied and fruitful career; and
WHEREAS, Randy’s advocacy has impacted scores of people and influenced some of our biggest preservation success stories including the Municipal Light Plant and Dam Tender House (Lashutka Event Center); and
WHEREAS, Randy’s leadership has been central to managing a vibrant preservation program covering six commissions, forty volunteers, Section 106 review, 70 individual listings and 18 districts - all during a period of unprecedented investment in our older neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Randy’s willingness to listen, share advice, make site visits, and suggest alternative solutions was central to his ability to navigate what at times were very complex projects; and
WHEREAS, Randy was honored by Heritage Ohio as the 2015 preservation professional of the year for his long career in preserving the historic fabric of Columbus; and
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS: That this City Council does hereby express its appreciation to Randy F. Black for his service to the City of Columbus, upon his retirement on March 30, 2018.
