To Recognize and Honor the Center for Somali American Engagement and Somali Eagles of Columbus on the Second Annual Ohio International Soccer Cup.
Body
WHEREAS, the tournament is a four-day event, which includes a combination of entertainment, dialogue, and game play; and
WHEREAS, sixteen youth soccer teams from Georgia, Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee, Minnesota, New York, Maine, Arizona, and more, made up of boys aged 15-24, will compete in the tournament; and
WHEREAS, the theme of the event is based off of a quote from Rangel, “Engagement of higher education for our youth is critical to the success of our collective future”; and
WHEREAS, higher education offers one of the surest pathways out of poverty and homelessness. Yet youth who experience poverty face barriers to accessing financial aid. They often lack the support to apply to, enroll in, and complete their post-secondary education; and
WHEREAS, the Center for Somali American Engagement and Somali Eagles work to remove these barriers, and to assist youth, educators, service providers, and advocates in their efforts to make higher education a reality; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS:
That this Council does hereby recognize and honor the Center for Somali American Engagement and Somali Eagles of Columbus on the Second Annual Ohio International Soccer Cup.
